Meal and rest break class action suits are on the rise: Find out if you are compliant

L&I seeking comment on outdoor heat exposure rules

L&I is currently developing rules related to outdoor heat exposure. These will be additional rules employers must follow to protect their employees as outdoor temperatures rise, such as requiring more frequent breaks and providing shade spaces.

Urge your senator to VOTE NO on natural gas ban

The Washington state Senate is seriously considering a bill that would ban natural gas in new construction starting June 30 of this year. While this will only impact customers and small businesses in Puget Sound Energy’s service area, this will increase costs for natural gas utility rate payers and is the start to a state-wide ban.

Hospitality grant portal closes April 6

The Washington Hospitality Association State Government Affairs team secured a HUGE WIN for the hospitality industry during the 2022 legislative session. The Legislature allocated $100 million in grants for hospitality operators that did not receive RRF relief, with $15 million set aside for lodging operators who incurred losses as a result of the eviction moratorium. The portal closes at 5 p.m. on April 6 - Thursday.

L&I asking for feedback on proposed tip, gratuity and service charge examples

L&I is asking the public to review its draft of the administrative policy by April 15. The draft examples can be downloaded from the Document Library on L&I's website.

Survey: Improving linen supply chain sustainability and cost-effectiveness

Washington State University (WSU) is currently looking to improve and innovate on the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of the linen supply chain. Researchers are currently seeking data through a brief survey on how hoteliers dispose of linens. Read more about the survey here.

The survey is expected to take 15 minutes or less and will be available until Friday, April 7, at 11:59 p.m

Congress tackles food waste, helps restaurants with food donations

Nearly 40% of all food in America is wasted, equating to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year according to Feeding America.

Congress recently passed the Food Donation Improvement Act to expand liability protections, curb food waste and reduce food insecurity.


The National Restaurant Association will share resources to help restaurants understand how they can benefit from this new law once they become available.
