The Legislature reached an agreement to fix the state’s drug possession laws, also known as the "Blake fix." They approved a bill during a one-day special session to make drug possession a misdemeanor and criminalize the use of drugs in public. There will also be an increased emphasis on diverting cases for treatment and other services rather than jail time.
Public safety issues were a top priority for the Washington Hospitality Association this session. We’re glad to see lawmakers taking appropriate steps to keep our communities safe.
